About Me | معلومات عني

A photograph of me visiting a museum in Tetouan, Morocco.

My name is Logan de La Barre-Hays, and I am from a small town on the Gulf Coast called Pass Christian, Mississippi. I grew up imbued with southern values, steeped in "the gumbo of humanity" I would later come to love at Louisiana State University. I received my first passport at the age of seven, and from my first moments on a plane, I knew I had been consumed by wanderlust. My desire to taste the cultures of the world inspired me to double major in International Studies and Political Science.

I am an Honors College student, and I have sought to embody its values of community, excellence and leadership in my time at LSU.  My dedication to community is exemplified by my commitment to service, which I used to help orient myself in the Baton Rouge Community from my first moments on campus. I became a Resident Assistant in the Laville Honors House to help incoming freshmen in the difficult transition from high school to college, out of a desire to do my part to create an Honors Community at LSU.

When I enrolled at Louisiana State University in 2010, I had no idea where my experiences would take me. In the past four years, I have stood in the shadow of the pillar of education in Baton Rouge and seen the heart-wrenching poverty of a small community in Chinandega, Nicaragua. I have sat in a classroom, struggling to acquire a fundamental understanding of the Arabic language, and later found myself observing native speakers of Arabic in Morocco struggling with their own letters. This multitude of experiences has inspired me to pursue a graduate degree in Middle Eastern studies, to not only explore the world around me in pursuit of wanderlust, but to truly understand its dichotomies and complexities.

I hope you explore my Public Portfolio, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
